Harwich Power Festival 2010
Friday 30th & Saturday 31st July Sunday 1st August 2010
Essex joins the National Powerboat circuit this summer, when the town of Harwich hosts Round 5 of the RYA National Offshore Powerboat Championships over the last weekend in July. The racing will take place in Dovercourt Bay in front of the promenade - a perfect amphitheatre not just for the spectators but also for the drivers as well as a Marathon event along the East Coast.
Harwich, with its International Port is eastern England's 'Gateway to the Continent'. The visitor can enjoy the heritage part of Harwich by exploring the narr ow streets, all full of
character. There are many places of interest such as the High Lighthouse, housing a radio museum, the Treadwheel Crane, the Electric Palace Cinema built in 1911 and still in use as a radio cinema, the Redoubt Fort built in 1808 and the LV18, the last manned lightship, which featured in the 2009 blockbuster movie "The Boat that Rocked".
